The Brooklyn Boys 7th Grade team (4-7) lost its regular season finale in a thrilling double overtime matchup against Cuyahoga Heights, 41-38.
The Canes came out and played strong defense, as they did not allow a point in the first quarter and took a 6-0.
That lead quickly evaporated as Cuyahoga Heights scored the first eight points of the second quarter but Brooklyn fought back to grab a 14-11 edge at halftime.
Brooklyn extended its lead to 22-17 at the end of three quarters but Cuyahoga Heights again quickly closed that gap. With the score tied with under 30 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, a traditional three-point play gave Brooklyn a 27-24 edge. Cuyahoga Heights hit a three pointers with six seconds to play to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, Brooklyn returned the favor. Trailing 35-32 in the final seconds, the Hurricanes hit a three-pointer with one second remaining to send the contest to double overtime.
For the third straight period, a three-point attempt in the final seconds had a chance to extend this game but trailing 41-38 with less than five seconds to play, this time Brooklyn was off the mark, ending the team’s first overtime game of the year.
Brooklyn had seven players score in the loss.
