The Brooklyn Boys 8th Grade team (3-1) prevailed in a high-scoring overtime thriller at Cuyahoga Heights, 50-46.
The Hurricanes got off to a quick start to the game with their highest scoring first half of the season. Brooklyn led 14-10 after one quarter and 27-18 at halftime, taking advantage of five first half three pointers.
The Canes end quickly evaporated in the opening minutes third quarter and the game remained tied after the third quarter, 31-31.
Brooklyn opened up an edge early in the fourth quarter, and led by four points with under a minute to play, when a Cuyahoga Heights 5-0 run gave them a 41-40 edge with under 20 seconds to play. Brooklyn’s Santana Sammons went to the foul line with eight seconds remaining and split a pair of free throws which ultimately sent the game to overtime.
The Canes jumped out to a quick five point lead in the overtime session with baskets by Anthony Pytel and Sammons. Cuyahoga Heights pulled within two in the final seconds but Sammons converted a pair of free throws with seven seconds to play to seal the victory.
Seven players scored in the game for Brooklyn, with six players putting up at least five points..
