On April 18, the Brooklyn Middle School Track and Field Team competed against Columbia and host, Black River.
For the girls, Laura Nguyen and Amber Rice got us off to a great start with a third and fourth place finish in the 100m hurdles. Jenna Young followed that up with a first place finish in the 100m dash. Madison Herbert had her best finish of the season so far with a second place finish in the 1600m run. The girls 4x100m relay team, consisting of Melaine Fernandez, Rebecca Fagiani, Normeze Rivera, and Delaney David, raced to a third place finish. Lexie Childers ran a PR 1:17.5 in the 400m dash for a third place finish. The girls 4x200m relay team (Delaney David, Normeze Rivera, Amber Rice, Jenna Young) finished in first place with a time of 2:07.82. Laura Nguyen capped off her day with a second place finish in the 200m hurdles. Delaney David rounded out the scoring for the running events with a third place finish in the 200m dash. Emma Tran and Cianna Barkley both finished fourth in the shot put and discus, respectively. Rebecca Fagiani jumped 11’7 to give herself a third place finish in the long jump. Last but not least, Jenna Young cleared 5’2 to win the high jump and stay undefeated in the event for the year. Great job ladies!
The boys team had equal success at this tri-meet. Oscar Davis ran a PR 19.51 in the 110m hurdles to secure himself a second place finish. Omarion Smith finished third in the 100m dash. The boys 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams, consisting of Ray Cogburn, Anthony Starr, Calvin Gore, and Massiah Baker, sprinted to a first place finish in both events and had a PR time in the 4×100 with a 49.75. Oscar Davis and Chavon Holton extended our season long success streak in the 200m hurdles with a second and fourth place finish. Massiah Baker ran a personal best 25.41 in the 200m dash for a second place finish and Omarion Smith was right behind him in third place. Oscar Davis finished out his great day with a second place finish in the high jump, jumping a PR 4’10”. Anthony Starr placed fourth in the discus. Calvin Gore rounded out the boys team scoring with a personal best 37’3.5 throw in the shot put to earn himself a well deserved first place finish.
The Hurricanes are at Brookside Middle School today for their last regular season tri-meet. Hope to see you there!
